Gravity and 12 Years a Slave shared the top honors at the Producers Guild Awards last night at the Beverly Hilton.
For the first time in 25 years, the Producers Guild of America announced a tie for their Best Film of the Year Award, according to Reuters. The Producers Guild calls the top film prize the Darryl F. Zanuck Award.
Other winners at the PGA Awards included AMC's Breaking Bad for best episodic drama and ABC's Modern Family won for best episodic comedy. HBO's Behind the Candelabra won in the longform category. Chris Meledandri of Illumination Entertainment took home the Visionary Award.
The Producers Guild of America is the largest union of film and television producers, with over 6,000 members. Like the SAG Awards, the Producers Guild Awards are a great indicator for who might take home the Oscar at the 86th Annual Academy Awards. According to The Hollywood Reporter, some say that the PGA is more predisposed to reward commercially successfully projects than the Academy is. Presenter Ben Affleck, whose Argo won the PGA Award and the Academy Award last year, announced this year’s tie for PGA’s top honor.
