On the same day that the Oscar nominations were announced, Hollywood got to throw a party, thanks to the Broadcast Film Critics Association. The group handed out the 19th annual Critics’ Choice Awards Wednesday night, honoring Gravity with a record seven wins. However, 12 Years A Slave still won Best Picture.

Gravity topped the previous record of six, set by 2009’s Avatar and tied by 2010’s Inception. The Warner Bros. thriller won for Best Director (Alfonso Cuarón), Best Actress in An Action Movie (Sandra Bullock) and Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie. It also swept the technical awards, winning Best Cinematography (Emmanuel Lubezki), Best Visual Effects, Best Editing (Alfonso Cuarón and Mark Sanger) and Best Score (Steven Price).

American Hustle came in second with four awards, winning Best Ensemble, Best Hair and Makeup and Best Comedy. Amy Adams took home Best Actress in a Comedy.

12 Years A Slave only won three in total, earning Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay (John Ridley) and Best Supporting Actress (Lupita Nyong’o). Dallas Buyers Club won the same two awards that it has been winning lately - Best Actor (Matthew McConaughey) and Best Supporting Actor (Jared Leto).

Other multi-award winners last night included The Great Gatsby (Art Direction, Costume Design); Frozen (Animated Feature, Best Song for “Let It Go”); and Blue Is The Warmest Color (Foreign Language Film, Best Young Actress for Adele Exarchopoulos).

Blue Jasmine’s Cate Blanchett won Best Actress and Spike Jonze won for his original screenplay for Her. 20 Feet From Stardom won Best Documentary Feature.

Oprah Winfrey was on hand to present Forest Whitaker the Joel Siegel Award, while Julie Delpy, Ethan Hawke, and director Richard Linklater won the LOUIS XIII Genius Award for their acclaimed Before trilogy.
