Greg Porter is one of the musicians looking toward taking home more than one Grammy Award this year.

At the 56th annual Grammy Awards, the jazz inspired singer/ songwriter is nominated for Grammys for Best Vocal Jazz Album for Liquid Spirit and traditional R&B Performance for the song, “Hey Laura,” according to Variety.

According to the Associated Press, Porter sad, “I'm not strategically trying to be in between soul, jazz and gospel. ... The people that I've been moved by are singers who have a soulful expression no matter what the genre - Nat King Cole, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Leon Thomas and Andy Bey.”

Greg Porter is originally from Bakersfield, California. He was encouraged to sing at church with his mother who was a minister. Around 2005, he began to consider himself a jazz singer. His debut album, Water was nominated for best jazz vocal album. All three of the soulful musician’s albums have received Grammy nominations.

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on Jan. 26.
