University College London researchers have found the key to living a long life! Happiness.
The findings for this study were published in the Candian Medical Association Journal.
The study took a look at 3,199 men and women over 60 in London. Those who participated in the study were separated into three groups, according to DailyMail. Those groups were 60-69, 70-79, and 80 or older.
According to Headlines and Global News, the researchers found that people who enjoy life, laugh a little, are more likely to be fit when they are older.
Elderly people who are happier are also more likely to have less trouble getting out of bed and ready for the day. "The study shows that older people who are happier and enjoy life more show slower declines in physical function as they age," said study author Dr. Andrew Steptoe.
They found that those with low well-being were three times as likely as those who had a different outlook, a happier one, to develop trouble with daily activities.
Steptoe said that the results, "provide further evidence that enjoyment of life is relevant to the future disability and mobility of older people."
