Herbie Hancock, jazz icon, has joined the esteemed professors at Harvard University. Hancock will be teaching poetry at Harvard.
Over the years, Robert Frost, T.S. Eliot and Leonard Bernstein have held the position at Harvard.
Rolling Stone reported that Hancock will be giving a series of seven lectures. The topics range from Buddhism to Miles Davis.
BBC reported that the topics in the class will range, it will mostly focus on the personal and professional life of Hancock.
Hancock spoke to BBC regarding the new teaching position and how it is daunting to be following in the footsteps of Frost and Bernstein. "The reason that I was chosen for this position was only partially because of music, they also realized that I'm a goodwill ambassador to [the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture], which is partly to do with cultural diplomacy which I'm addressing in one of my lectures," said Hancock.
Hancock has won 14 Grammys during the course of his career and is known for his work and influence on the jazz music industry.
