Heroin is an addictive drug that kills its users. Lately a spike in heroine related deaths have officials in Pittsburgh worried.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, four people died of heroin overdose in Pittsburgh. The county Mayor Bill Peduto said in a statement, "It will kill you. The danger cannot be overstated.”
As if matters could not get any worse, more news reveals more death amongst heroin users. An additional three people were pronounced dead on Sunday in the county, reports NBC Philadelphia.
Seven heroin related deaths in just two days is bad enough, but the numbers seem more grave and dangerous. Allegheny County had 14 deaths due to heroin overdose this past week and typically they see one or two deaths weekly, writes the Post-Gazette.
No one expects heroin to give the user a long and healthy life, but the county was not prepared for an incident like this one. The sudden increase of heroin overdoses has the Allegheny County and neighboring counties on a quest for immediate termination of the spread of this substance.
The death toll has the officials wondering if the substance fentanyl was involved, because its potency is staggeringly more dangerous than heroin, according to NBC.
