After Indian diplomat, Devyani Khobragade, was asked to leave the United States after she received full diplomatic immunity, left Friday under the stress of not being with her family, who stayed behind.
Khobragade was tried in New York after an investigation into the visa of her domestic worker, Sangeeta Richard, whose family was brought to the U.S. when it was known that they were being intimidated.
According to Hindustan Times , Khobragade said, "I have come to India but my stand still needs to be vindicated. And of course, I have been separated from my family, and I am under immense stress for my children.” Khobragade will fight for her right to come back into the country, however she will have to have full diplomatic immunity or she will have to give herself over to authorities.
There have been major repercussions since Khobragade’s been accused, her trial, and since she was expelled from the country. According to AFP, India has taken away extra security barriers at the U.S. embassy, and has asked for all the contracts for the domestic help that are employed by American diplomats. When Khobragade was asked to leave, India asked the U.S. to withdraw one of the American diplomats from New Delhi.
Khobragade will continue to fight for her right to be let back into the United States.
