An Indiana University student has pleaded not guilty to making bombs in his apartment.
According to the Associated Press, Ryder Pickens faces felony charges for trying to make a bomb after investigators say they found dangerous chemicals in his apartment.
The Indianapolis Star has reported that Pickens was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempted manufacturing of a destructive device.
In court on Thursday, he plead not guilty and told investigators that he was not trying to make a bomb.
Bloomington police say they arrested the 20-year-old after he was released from IU Health Hospital.
“We don’t have a full picture of his mental-health history at this point, but certainly we intend to get to the bottom of it,” Monroe County deputy prosecutor Jeff Kehr.
Officials will need a court order to gain access to his mental health records.
Pickens is being held at the Monroe County Jail on $1 million bond. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for March 27.
