For fans of the wildly admired and classic film, King Kong, enthusiasts will be able to see Kong live in an entirely new way. The fabled and colossal gorilla will be beating down the Broadway stage coming in December of 2014.

According to the New York Times, the musical Kong is currently running in Melbourne, Australia and costs approximately $30 million to produce. The vast budget is quite fitting for the size of the show as well as for Kong himself. Following in the footsteps of Broadway’s most expensive production in history, Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, Kong will live in the Foxwoods Theatre.

A producer of the show, Gerry Ryan, spoke with the New York Times regarding the new musical. “We’re having to tweak it a little bit, a little bit more music, and polish up the script. We did get a script doctor, try and tighten the show up, for the audience to follow the story a little bit easier.”

Broadway.com the producer also noted in his interview with the New York Times that Kong would be a “natural fit for New York.”

The misunderstood ape will be created with an enormous-sized puppet along with the help of technological support and movement by trained acrobatic and circus performers. Kong is based off of the classic love story and desire for fame leading into the heartbreaking journey. As for the new musical, Ryan ensured, “They’re very excited to see the big monkey coming to town.”
