Liz Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, abandoned her campaign to be Senator of Wyoming. Citing health issues in her family as the cause, Liz Cheney stepped away from vying for the Senate seat currently held by Wyoming Senator Mike Enzi.

Cheney was poised to move towards the Senate seat in the upcoming election, after defending freedom, liberty, and patriotism. She moved her family from Virginia to Wyoming to run for office, according to the Associated Press. Recently, Cheney was met with mixed reviews by Senate Republicans, who called her a carpetbagger and opportunist. Republicans rushed to back Senate veteran, Enzi, including Senator Jerry Moran, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

According to CNN, "Serious health issues have recently arisen in our family, and under the circumstances, I have decided to discontinue my campaign," Cheney said in a prepared statement. She pledged to continue fighting for American families and the fundamental values that have made Wyoming great.

Republicans have long gathered support in Wyoming. Mike Enzi was elected in 1996, and won the re-election in 2008.
