A Texas man has been arrested for holding up a sign and alerting other motorists of a speed trap ahead.

According to the New York Daily News, Ron Martin was arrested on a Frisco highway last October for holding up a handmade sign that read,'Police Ahead.'

The basis of the misdemeanor charge is that Martin was on public, not private property while he was waving the sign.

CNN has reported that Martin is fighting the charges, saying that officers violated his first amendment rights when they arrested him for going against the city’s sign ordinance.

Martin also maintains that he did nothing wrong and was only reminding drivers of the speed limit.

“I think it’s absolutely important for officers to be on the streets and enforce laws,” said Martin.

Police say the 33-year-old has been caught holding up these types of homemade signs before, but has never been charged.

On Wednesday, he pleaded not guilty. He is due back in court on February 21.
