The Wolf of Wall Street’s breakout star, Margot Robbie, opened up about getting the chance to work with Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese, and how DiCaprio’s talent pushed her to grow as an actress.
Robbie, 23, called it a “dream come true” to work with DiCaprio, telling Manhattan he’s “always been my favorite actor.”
“Both he and Marty have such massive presences when you’re around them—they’re unstoppable, like this force that keeps moving; they have so much dimension, it sometimes seems impossible to keep up with them,” she continued of DiCaprio and Scorsese, who have worked together on previous films like Shutter Island and The Departed.
Robbie said working opposite DiCaprio – she plays his second wife, Naomi – “challenged me every single second—the challenge just to keep up with him pushed me and got my acting to a level it’s never been, which is incredibly satisfying.”
The Australian-born actress, who had to deliver a Brooklyn accent in the film, was called “incredibly believable” by DiCaprio. But Robbie recalled a time during filming one of their sex scenes where she literally moved his head to the side because he was in her lighting.
“He was so incredulous that I had told him to get out of my light, and physically moved him out of the way, he was like, ‘Did you really just do that?’ I don’t think anyone has told him to get out of their light in quite some time. He seemed extremely [shocked], but it was kind of funny,” she said.
Robbie is currently filming Focus with Will Smith.
