On Wednesday, Colorado became the first U.S. state to sell legal recreational marijuana and the pot shoppers showed up and waited in long lines.

According to the Associated Press, shoppers braved the weather and waited hours in snow and frigid wind.

Many weed seekers even traveled from other states to get their place in line.

"It's a huge deal for me," said Andre Barr, a 34-year-old deliveryman who drove from Niles, Michigan. "This wait is nothing."

Colorado residents can buy up to an ounce of marijuana per transaction, and out-of-state residents can buy up to half an ounce.

The price for an ounce of weed at some shops is $400; half an ounce costs $200.

Colorado had 24 licensed retailers, most located in Denver, that sold weed legally on Wednesday and shop owners agreed it was a huge success.

The next state up for the weed test is Washington, which will mostly see long lines during its first day of sales as well.
