Singer Mary J. Blige’s father has been stabbed and critically injured during a domestic dispute, police say.
According to NBC News, the R&B diva’s father was taken to a Michigan hospital, where he remains after the stabbing on Thursday.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that Thomas Blige remains in critical condition after the attack by former girlfriend Cheryl Ann White.
Police say the long-standing feud between the 63-year-old Blige and his 50-year-old ex-girlfriend came to a head when Blige allegedly caught her slashing the tires on his vehicle and confronted her.
"During the course of the confrontation, the female stabbed the victim in the neck," police said in a statement.
Police were called to Blige’s apartment complex just before 7:00 a.m. They noticed blood in the snow leading to his residence and found him with three stab wounds to his throat, side and arm.
White was arrested and charged with assault and intent to murder.
The Grammy-winning Blige is reportedly estranged from her father.
