Three people are dead following a shooting at a Columbia, Md. mall shooting on Saturday morning.
Howard County Police believe that the shooter is one of the dead, reports Reuters. Police were summoned to the mall shortly before noon by a 911 call claiming that someone was shooting in the Mall of Columbia.
According to CNN, none of the dead have been identified, but one body lay near ammunition and a gun.
The Howard County Police were updating the situation through Twitter and warned people away from the area for the time being. When they first arrived at the scene, the police said it was an active shooter situation, but Reuters notes mall shoppers were later allowed to leave.
Three witnesses at the mall spoke with NBC News and claimed that the weapon used was a shotgun. Authorities have not confirmed the weapon used in the shooting.
Those inside the mall hid in various stores in the mall, which is only 30 miles away from Washington, D.C., during after the shooting.
