20th Century Fox must really be confident in Matt Reeves’ work on the upcoming Planet of the Apes sequel because the studio has hired him for the legendary franchise’s next adventure.
Reeves has just completed shooting on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the follow up to Fox’s successful franchise reboot, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Now, TheWrap and The Hollywood Reporter are both reporting that Reeves has been tapped to direct the next Planet of the Apes film.
Reeves will also collaborate with Mark Bomback on the script again. TheWrap notes that Fox expects Reeves to easily slide right into gear for the new film as it considers the franchise a major priority.
Fox recently rescheduled Dawn for July 11, the former release date for Universal’s Fast & Furious 7, which was delayed until 2015. A week later, the studio released the first teaser for the film.
Dawn will star Jason Clarke, Keri Russell and Gary Oldman, with Andy Serkis again portraying Caesar, whose army will fight the last humans in the film. Rise made $482 million worldwide in 2011.
