In a glamorous ceremony at the 25th Annual Palm Springs Film Festival, actress Meryl Streep accepts the prestigious Icon Award.

Streep told the Hollywood Reporter, "I feel like I'm an example now in my dotage that you can't put those old gals out to pasture -- we've got a lot to say."

The Icon Award symbolizes the high level of achievement of a body of work in a film. Michael Douglas was honored with the Icon award in 2011. He is the only other person to ever receive the award.

Streep, who was wearing a stunning black and silver dress, accepted the honor with open arms. In a career spanning over 40 years, Streep has won three Oscars. Most recently, she is known for her portrayal of trailblazer Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. Streep has been nominated for 17 Academy Awards, according to Variety.

Streep, who recently starred with Julia Roberts in August: Osage County, is also up for Globe and SAG honors this year. She plays Violent Weston, the matriarch of a dysfunctional family.

The Palm Springs Film Festival continues through Jan 13.
