Actress Mia Farrow took a trip to Ecuador this week to join a campaign against oil giant Chevron, which has been accused of polluting the Amazon with oil.
Farrow, who is best known for films like Rosemary’s Baby and movies with Woody Allen, showed support for “The Dirty Hand of Chevron.” The campaign was launched in September by Ecuador president Rafael Correa, reports Inquisitr.
The campaign supports communities in the country that were affected by Texaco’s activities in the region between 1964 and 1990. Texaco was bought by Chevron in 2001. The company was told to pay $9 billion for polluting the Amazon, a ruling that Chevron is challenging.
“I feel an incredible sense of anger,” Farrow said when she was shown the pools of oil that have built up in Ecuador’s Aguarico region, reports the AFP.
In a photo-op, Farrow was seen with oil on her hands, holding it up to the camera. The actress is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and has joined efforts to stop polio.
Farrow has recently made headlines for her active Twitter page and live tweeted the State of the Union last night. Her son, Ronan Farrow, will soon be hosting a show on MSNBC.
