At the Sundance Film Festival, Michael De Luca and PGA head Vance Van Patten began a conversation that included movie making and De Luca’s new job at Columbia Pictures. The conversation was scheduled as part of the second annual PGA breakfast for producers.
De Luca discussed his new project, Fifty Shades. Fifty Shades is the story of a literature student who meets a billionaire named Christian Grey. Marcia Gay Harden is set to appear in the film. De Luca told The Hollywood Reporter, "Obviously, the movie can't be as explicit as the book. The book is explicit by design because the author wanted to go inside the head of Anna -- the female lead -- and detail her experience."
SonyPictures Entertainment recently named Michael De Luca president of production at Columbia Pictures. This marks a change for De Luca and his production company. De Luca’s company, Michael De Luca Prods., has had a production and development deal with Columbia Pictures since its formation in 2004, according to Variety.
De Luca’s previous projects have included Moneyball, The Social Network, and The Sitter. He also produced the TV movie, Shogun.
