Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is trying to convince women that Democrats only want to help with birth control because women cannot "control their libido."

Huckabee spoke at the Republican National Committee's winter meeting where he said that Republicans need to fight back against Democrats' "war on women," reports The Washington Post.

He then added, "The fact is the Republicans don't have a war on women, they have a war for women, to empower them to be something other than victims of their gender."

The one-time presidential candidate then added that Democrats are really just insulting women "by making them believe that they are helpless" without the government stepping in and providing birth control as women "cannot control their libido" without help.

Huckabee insisted that Republicans are the better party for women to stand behind, according to NBC News.

White House press secretary Jay Carney was asked about Huckabee's comments and though he hadn't seen them yet, he quipped, "sounds offensive to me, and to women."
