Miles Teller, who starred in The Spectacular Now last year, has reportedly been offered the plum role of Dan Aykroyd in the James Belushi biopic that’s in the works with Emile Hirsch. Aykroyd was a frequent collaborator with the late Saturday Night Live star, so this could be another big role for Teller.
The news was first announced by Hirsch himself, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While attending a Creative Coalition party Saturday night at Sundance, Hirsch yelled “A shout-out to Miles Teller!” The Into The Wild star told attendees, “We’re going to be working together soon. He’s playing Dan Aykroyd in the Belushi movie.”
Entertainment Weekly also confirmed the news.
His agency, CAA, told THR though that the deal isn’t signed. Teller is hoping to take a breather after Sundance, where he impressed in Whiplash. He’s also starring in Divergent and will be doing press for That Awkward Moment, which opens on Jan. 31.
Hirsch signed on to play Belushi in October Aykroyd, who co-starred in The Blues Brothers with Belushi, is an executive producer on the project.
Sony Pictures Classics paid $3 million to acquire Whiplash on Friday.
