Police say a Maryland woman has been charged with killing her own children during an exorcism attempt.

According to USA Today, police have charged two women with murder in connection with Friday’s stabbing deaths of a one-year-old boy and two-year-old girl.

The two children died of multiple stab wounds during the attempted act and two others remain hospitalized.

Police charged the children’s mother, Zakieya Avery, 28, with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

The second woman Monifa Sanford, 21, was also at the scene and faces the same charges. She was briefly hospital, but released and turned over to authorities.

Police say a neighbor called 911 and was unsure of what was taking place inside the home, but outside, saw a car door open with a knife next to it.

CNN has reported that police were called to the home Thursday after a child was allegedly left unattended in a car. By the time they reached the residence the child was not in the car and no one answered the door.

Both woman are being held without bond.
