After 33 years of pure hair metal and glam rock, one of the biggest bands of the ‘80s is calling it quits and announcing a farewell tour.
According to TMZ, Mötley Crüe announced their split at 12:00 p.m. PST during a news conference inside Beacher's Madhouse Theater in Hollywood. The stage for the press conference is adorned with headstones for each of the band's members - Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, and Tommy Lee.
The rockers’ breakup stems from their desire to end as a legend. Frequent breakup rumors throughout the years have almost left the band dwindled down to only one or two members when they would rather end together as a whole.
Before they officially retire, the band will go on a 70-show global farewell tour. Tickets are set to go on sale Friday starting at $15; an unusually low price to see the band who is slated to feature Alice Cooper as their opening act.
As for what their futures hold, USA TODAY reports that Vince Neil plans on getting more involved in the restaurant industry and pursue music. Nikki Sixx has a side project called 6 AM, he's working on a Broadway play and he has a radio show. Mick Mars, who just moved to Nashville, plans to immerse himself in a solo album. As for Tommy Lee, he says he has some big surprises planned.
