As expected, NBC and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences have decided to move the 2014 Emmys to August. The awards show is usually used by whichever network airs it to launch its new season of fall programming, but NBC had to move the ceremony so it did not clash with Sunday Night Football.
Back in August, it was reported that the peacock network and the TV Academy were looking for a way to keep the Emmys from impeding SNF. Now, NBC has announced that the 66th annual Emmy Awards will be held on Aug. 25, which is a Monday.
Typically, the networks use the Emmys to kick off a new season. This is what CBS did in September when it aired the 2013 ceremony on a Sunday. However, NBC can’t run it on a Sunday in September because of its SNF schedule and has previously aired it in August the last two times it had the Emmys. The network would not want to have to give up an NFL game just to air an awards show.
No host has been announced for the ceremony. The last time NBC hosted the Emmys, Jimmy Fallon was the master of ceremonies.
The TV Academy has also scheduled the Creative Arts Emmy Awards for Saturday, Aug. 16.
