New York Rep. Michael Grimm will not be charged for threatening NY1 reporter Michael Scotto in the Capitol rotunda after the State of the Union on Tuesday. Grimm has already personally apologized to Scotto.
Grimm had threatened to throw Scotto “off this f-----g balcony” after Scotto asked him about an FBI investigation into his campaign finances. The Republican Congressman confronted Scotto, rather than just saying ‘no comment.’ The entire confrontation was caught on tape.
His first statement after the incident was not apologetic, but he later called up Scotto and apologized over the phone. Scotto accepted the apology and the two are scheduling a lunch.
While that seemed to be the end of the story, Fox News reported that law enforcement and U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of the Columbia were discussing possible criminal charges for threatening bodily harm on federal property. Capitol Police later told NBC News that no charges will be filed though.
“Consistent with our law enforcement responsibilities, we looked into the event, determined there isn't a complainant and have closed the matter,” Capitol Police spokeswoman Sergeant Kimberly Schneider told NBC.
