One South African cable provider is so convinced that the Oscar Pistorius murder trial will be must-see TV that the company, MultiChoice, is launching a 24/7 channel dedicated to the trial.
MultiChoice said that it will make a temporary channel available called The Oscar Pistorius Trial: A Carte Blanche Channel, which will only cover the legal proceedings, reports Independent Online. When court is not in session, the channel will feature documentaries, analysis and other programs, all concerning Pistorius.
“We previously added dedicated channels for special events such as Idols and Big Brother,” Aletta Alberts, Head of Content for MultiChoice, said in a statement. “This pop-up channel will give our viewers in-depth coverage of the Oscar Pistorius trial, with a rich variety of content and social media integration.”
However, the Associated Press notes that the judge presiding over Pistorius’ case has not said if cameras will be allowed in the courtroom yet. The judge has previously restricted access to other legal proceedings in the case.
Pistorius, a double leg amputee who competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, will be on trial for the murder of his girlfriend on Feb. 14, 2013. He had denied that he planned the killing, stating that he mistook her for a burglar. He was granted bail.
The trial is now set to run from March 3 to 30 in Pretoria High Court.
