After winning an appeal of his clergy sex abuse conviction, a Philadelphia priest was released from prison.
According to the Associated Press, after spending 18 months behind bars, Monsignor William Lynn was released from state prison in Waymart, Pa. on Thursday.
Prosecutors charged the 62-year-old with hiding complaints that priest were molesting children, while he was secretary for the clergy and in charge of those complaints from 1992-2004. He was originally convicted of child endangerment, but that ruling was overturned by a Pennsylvania Appeals court.
ABC News reported earlier this week that Lynn would be freed after a judge set his bail at $250,000.
Lynn will remain in Philadelphia, but will be fitted for an electronic bracelet and be forced to surrender his passport.
The Roman Catholic Church and Archdiocese of Philadelphia have been rocked by this child sex abuse scandal for over a decade now. Prosecutors do not believe that Lynn was some type of fall guy and vow to appeal the court's decision .
