Down and Out in Beverly Hills writer Paul Mazursky has been named as the latest to receive the Writers Guild of America, West Screen Laurel Award.
The Screen Laurel Award is presented as a lifetime-achievement award, reports TheWrap. Lawrence Kasdan, Berry Levinson, Steven Zailian and Eric Roth have previously been recipients of the WGA award.
Mazursky, who also received the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's lifetime-achievement award, said of his Oscar nominations, "You start to really want it." He continued, "And then of course you don't get it. The best thing is to not give a s--t."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mazursky has been nominated four times for an Academy Award for Harry and Tonto, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, Enemies, A Love Story and An Unmarried Woman. He was also nominated for Original Screenplay guild awards for Down and Out in Beverly Hills and I Love You, Alice B. Toklas.
In a statement, WGAW VP Howard A. Rodman said, "Paul Mazursky's talents as an actor (he was in Stanley Kubrick's first film) and filmaker (one of the signature directors of the 1970s) should not be allowed to obscure a central fact: he is among our greatest living screenwriters."
