A Most Wanted Man opened at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 19. Philip Seymour Hoffman said making the movie was one of the most satisfying experiences he’s head.
According to the Associated Press, Hoffman said, "These espionage-ish stories tend to get lost and I wanted people to be surprised emotionally. Everyone was on board with making this story believable, meaningful and human."
Hoffman was drawn to the film. The story comes from John le Carre's best-selling thriller novel of the same name, according to Reuters. The thriller was directed by Anton Carbijn and also stars Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright, and Willem Dafoe. It is about a man named Issa who illegally immigrates to Hamburg. Philip Seymour Hoffman, 46, plays German spy, Gunther Bachmann. The film was shot in Hamburg.
Weighty themes are not new for the celebrity. Hoffman won a best actor Oscar in 2006 for Capote. He has also appeared inThe Talented Mr. Ripley, Magnolia. God’s Pocket, and The Ides of March.
