The second video from Pixies' new release Ep2 stars choreographer and performance artist Nando Messias.
The video features Messias balancing an egg on a spoon and taking a rice shower, all while dressed as a woman. On his website, Messias is described as combining "beautiful images with a fierce critique of gender, visibility and violence."
Pixies frontman Black Francis told Pollstar that "Magdalena" is "kind of a broken-heart song – I love this girl, she’s no good, she was mean to me. We broke up and now I’m sad." He also said that "Magdalena" shares its name with an asteroid, which inspired him to include an inside reference to the album's producer Gil Norton, who viewed Pixies' return to music as a sci-fi epic.
Founding Pixies bassist Kim Deal quit during recording of the album and was replaced by Paz Lenchantin. The band will be performing in North America for the next five weeks before starting a festival tour in South America and Europe.
