Producer Paul Pompian died on Jan. 1 after his struggle with leukemia. Pompian produced over 50 films and television productions in his career.
One his first projects was with Roger Corman’s New World Pictures beginning in 1971. According to Variety, Corman was known to work with some of the best and brightest including James Cameron and Martin Scorsese.
Paul Pompian’s projects included Death of a Centerfold: The Dorothy Stratten Story, Velocity, Gideon, Hidden Assassin, and Swimming Upstream. Swimming Upstream starred Geoffrey Rush and Judy Davis and was nominated for five Australian Academy Awards. Pompian’s most recent film, Waste Land, written and directed by Rebekah Chaney and starring Chaney and Ryan O’Neal, won prizes at film festivals in Boston, Long Beach, N.Y., and Salento, Italy. Paul Pompian was a member of many unions in the film and television industry including the DGA, PGA, SAG, and the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Pompian is survived by Polly, his wife of 15 years. A memorial honoring Paul Pompian will be held in Los Angeles. The day is not yet determined.
