Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been announced as the halftime performer at Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday, with opera singer Renee Fleming to sing the national anthem before it starts. It’s now being announced that Queen Latifah will sing “America the Beautiful” during the event’s pregame coverage.
This isn’t the first time Queen Latifah will do the honors, she previously sang the song at the Super Bowl four years ago, which was Super Bowl XLIV. Fleming will be making her Super Bowl debut, with Amber Zion performing the National Anthem in American Sign Language.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Super Bowl is the most-matched television event in U.S. history. Last year, 164 million people tuned in.
It was first confirmed back in September that the “Locked Out of Heaven” singer, Mars, would be headlining the halftime show. It was then revealed that the Red Hot Chili Peppers would be joining him earlier this month.
Queen Latifah just made Grammy's history on Sunday, officiating the weddings of 33 couples while Macklemore and Ryan Lewis sang their song "Same Love."
