Quentin Tarantino took 2013 off, but he’s reportedly getting ready to make another film. It’s rumored to be another Western, this one titled The Hateful Eight and casting could start as early as this summer.
Not a single star has been cast, but The Hollywood Reporter’s sources claimed that he’s working with veteran casting director Victoria Thomas to find suitable stars for the film. That process could start this summer, although one source for THR said that there’s no set schedule yet. Pilar Savone, who produced Django Unchained and was an associate producer on The Inglorious Basterds and Death Proof, is set to produce the new film.
Deadline and THR both noted that Tarantino is looking to cast Christoph Waltz again. Tarantino made Waltz an international star with his Oscar-winning turn in Basterds and Waltz won another Best Supporting Oscar for Django.
However, Deadline also reported that Bruce Dern is someone Tarantino would like to cast in the film. Dern is 77, but is experiencing a career resurgence thanks to Alexander Payne’s Nebraska, which is likely to earn him an Oscar nomination Thursday.
Back in November, Tarantino told Jay Leno that he was working on another Western. “After I taught myself how to make one, it’s like ‘Woo, okay, now let me make another one.’ Now I know what I’m doing,” he said.
There’s no news on who would finance The Hateful Eight, but The Weinstein Co. and Tarantino have a long relationship, so it’s likely that Tarantino will work with them again.
It’s already clear that The Hateful Eight would be another love letter to the Western, as even the title brings The Magnificent Seven to mind.
