Director Quentin Tarantino is so angry and disappointed that his newest script leaked that he’s putting the project on hold altogether. The script, titled The Hateful Eight, leaked earlier this month and the Django Unchained director thinks he knows how it might have happened.

Just last week, it was reported that Tarantino was working on a new western called The Hateful Eight, with the hopes of casting Bruce Dern after his strong turn in Nebraska. There were also reports that he was interested in casting Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained, Inglorious Basterds) in the project.

However, it could be a few years before the project comes to fruition since the script leaked. At the very least, it will not be the Pulp Fiction director’s next film after 2012’s Django.

“I’m very, very depressed,” Tarantino told Deadline last night. “I finished a script, a first draft, and I didn’t mean to shoot it until next winter, a year from now. I gave it to six people, and apparently it’s gotten out today.”

Tarantino figured out it leaked after his agent, Mike Simpson, began receiving calls about roles in the film.

He said that he gave it to producer Reggie Hudlin, who then let an agent read it. “That’s a betrayal, but not crippling because the agent didn’t end up with the script,” Tarantino said. He then explained that he gave it to three actors: Tim Roth, who he has worked with before; Michael Madsen, was was in his Kill Bill; and Dern. He’s sure it wasn’t Roth.

“One of the others let their agent read it, and that agent has now passed it on to everyone in Hollywood,” Tarantino said. “I don’t know how these f**king agents work, but I’m not making this next.”

However, fans will get to read the script, since he does want to publish it in the next year. He has plenty of ideas for his next project.

TheWrap notes that Tarantino did start talking to Harvey Weinstein about making the project, but it’s not clear if Weinstein saw the script. The site also notes that one of Tarantino’s potential next projects may be a prison movie.

Tarantino won Oscars for his screenplays for Pulp Fiction and Django. He said that Waltz was not shown the screenplay.
