The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be joining Bruno Mars for the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show on Feb. 2 at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The news was revealed on Saturday, during an NFC playoff game on Fox. In a press release from the NFL, they call lead singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer "one of the most successful acts in rock history.”
It’s not uncommon for halftime show headliners to choose collaborators for the big event, Fox News notes. Last year, Beyonce reunited with her Destiny’s Child bandmates onstage.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers, who have won six Grammys in their career, last released a new album in 2011. As a band they’ve sold over 60 million albums worldwide.
Some of the band’s biggest hits include “Californication,” “Scar Tissue” and “Give It Away.”
The Super Bowl’s official Twitter page even posted the following message about the announcement:
