Kevin Hart's new buddy comedy with Ice Cube, Ride Along, has started off the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend strong with $14.5 million earned on Friday.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, projections now say that the movie could possibly gross about $45 million for the weekend. The film only cost $25 million to produce.
Universal Picture's fortunes continued as both the top movies on Friday are from their studio, with Mark Wahlberg's Lone Survivor continuing strong with $6.7 million on Friday, which could translate to a decent $26 million. The film has already brought in roughly $77 million.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Chris Pine's new movie Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit could possibly snag the number three spot for the weekend box office, but the early numbers haven't been stellar. The film earned $5.4 million on Friday, with predictions for the weekend gross hitting around $17 million.
One of the other new films of the weekend is the animate film The Nut Job and it could potentially take the third spot after earning $4.8 million. The last new opening was Devil's Due, which grossed about $3.5 million on Friday.
