Drummer Ringo Starr gave some more details on what he and Paul McCartney will be doing on Grammy weekend, as the Recording Academy celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ first trip to America. Although both living Beatles will perform at the Grammys, Starr said that he and McCartney will only be performing together at a special tribute concert on Monday.
Last week, the Recording Academy announced that McCartney and Starr would attend the Grammys, which left fans wondering if they would be performing together. However, Starr told Access Hollywood that the reunion won’t happen during the Grammys on Sunday.
Instead, they will do at least a song together at the special Beatles tribute show on Monday. The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute To The Beatles is being taped and will be broadcast by CBS on Feb. 9, the exact 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ performance on The Ed Sullivan Show.
“To celebrate the 50 years since we landed in New York in February [1964], they are putting on a big show on Monday and we will be doing it there,” Starr told Access Hollywood.
Starr spoke with the site at the David Lynch Foundation’s party for the iconic drummer. Rolling Stone reports that the Blue Velvet director honored Starr with “Lifetime of Peace and Love Award” at the El Rey Theatre in LA. An all-star (or All-Starr) band performed Starr’s songs, including Benmont Tench, Steve Lukather, Don Was, Kenny Aronoff and Peter Frampton. Starr himself joined in on a few numbers.
