Two recent studies have led to the investigation of how testosterone medications affect men’s health. The Food and Drug Administration is looking into testosterone treatments after many men have reported heart attacks and other heart problems.
One study concluded that risk for heart attack doubled in testosterone patients. According to nbcnews One study published this week found that men with heart disease double their risk of heart attack soon after they start using testosterone gels or other supplements. The study also concluded that even men without heart disease that are over the age of 65 are at risk.
Until recently the FDA had decided testosterone treatments are not unsafe, but reinforce that they are only for certain candidates. According to forbes the FDA said, “None of the FDA-approved testosterone products are approved for use in men with low testosterone levels who lack an associated medical condition.”
The FDA is carefully studying the effects of the hormone products to determine the safety of current and future treatment options.
