Selena Gomez has been guarded about her break-up with Justin Bieber, which happened about a year ago, careful not to let out too many details about it. With that said, it’s surprising that she spoke about it to Seventeen magazine.
Gomez talked about growing up, turning 20, and really coming into her own. She told the magazine that she’s always felt like the “underdog” coming from the Disney world, which produced such stars as Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers.
However, going through a “bad break-up” helped her become stronger.
“Then I turned 20, went through a really bad breakup, and realized I needed to have 'Come & Get It' be amazing. I wanted it all to be me. I'm glad it's taken me this long to get where I am because now I am ready for it,” she explained.
Us Weekly notes she hinted Bieber was “threatened” by her status in the industry.
“I actually talked to Katy Perry about guys who are intimidated by strong girls. I haven't found someone yet who could understand my lifestyle, support it, love me through it, and not be threatened by it," she said. "It's hard. I do think I might scare some guys, because I'm like, 'I want to change the world! I have dreams! What do you want to do?' But I only know how to be me."
A possible peek inside just how bad her break-up with Bieber was and continues to be, alleged leaked text messages between the two surfaced recently.
