In a cold sweep across the Midwest and Northeast, temperatures have dropped below zero and snow storms have banked several states in over a feet of snow.
NBC News reports that on Friday, New York will see a high of between minus 5 and 8 degrees. Massachusetts will likewise drop below zero, and Maine may see a drop of minus 30 at night.
“That is a very, very dangerous set of circumstances,” Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick said.
Across New England, over 1,800 flights were cancelled. Eighteen inches seeped New England as New York alone saw a rise of 10 inches.
Fox News reports Maine meteorologist David Epstein, who says that with the drop in subzero degrees, the snow will actually be light enough to push with a broom. “The saying it’s too cold to snow, won’t apply Thursday night and early Friday,” he said. “Temperatures for much of this storm will be in the single numbers and this will create a snow that is as light as you will ever see in this part of the world.”
Meanwhile, The Weather Channel predicts a blizzard storm called Hercules to sweep the Midwest and Northeast this week.
