Michael De Luca, who was just hired last month by Sony to oversee production, has made his first big deal for the studio, securing the film rights to spy novel The Director. The hope is to have the film developed by the team behind Captain Phillips, producer Scott Rudin and director Paul Greengrass.

The plot of David Ignatius’ novel centers on Graham Weber right after he is named CIA director, notes Deadline. A Swiss kid says he has hacked into the CIA computers and uncovered the list of agents. Weber enlists James Morris to investigate and the novel then goes into the hacker underworld, with deception and double-crosses.

Greengrass would write the screenplay and direct. TheWrap notes that he’s not officially signed on yet, but that should happen soon.

De Luca was hired by Sony in December as President of Production. He will officially start there on Feb. 1, once Fifty Shades of Grey is finished filming.

As for Greengrass, he is likely to secure a second Oscar nomination tomorrow morning. His Captain Phillips has been a critical favorite and stars Tom Hanks.
