A South Carolina man who escaped from a mental hospital was captured on Friday.

According to FOX News, Jason Carter, who was found incompetent to stand trial, escaped from the G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital, but was caught a day later in Williamson County, Tennessee.

WLTX in Columbia, reported that law enforcement was informed that Carter was unaccounted for on Thursday morning.

It is believed that he was working on the hospital’s campus, 115 miles northwest of Charleston, when he fled, but an investigation into how he actually escaped is ongoing.

In 2006, Oconee County police said that Carter shot his mother, Debra Ann Perkins, and his stepfather, Kevin Perkins, before wrapping their bodies in plastic and dumping them in a basement.

Three years later, however, a judge found him not guilty by reason of insanity and ordered him to the mental hospital, where he has been ever since.

The 370-bed psychiatric ward treats community patients as well as those involuntarily committed by the courts.
