Authorities say that a student at a Denver-area high school set himself on fire in the cafeteria Monday in an apparent suicide attempt.
According to the Associated Press, police say that the 16-year-old did not make any threats before setting himself on fire.
"There is no indication there were any threats to any schools," said Westminster Police Department spokeswoman Cheri Spottke.
The student at Standley Lake High School set himself ablaze sometime after 7:00 a.m. There were several students in the cafeteria at the time, but none were injured.
A worker in the cafeteria was able to quickly put out the fire with an extinguisher. She suffered cuts from breaking the glass, the Washington Times reported.
The Times also notes that the teen’s apparent suicide attempt led to an evacuation and caused classes to be canceled for the rest of the day.
The boy was taken to a nearby hospital and fire officials say over 80 percent of his body was burned.
