Texas restaurant owner Michael De Beyer put his family’s restaurant up for sale to help one of his waitresses pay for medical bills after she was diagnosed with a brian tumor.
Brittany Mathis, 19, discovered the tumor after visiting the doctor for a rash, according to New York Daily News. “I just can’t be standing by and doing nothing. I have to try something because it’s not right,” De Beyer said.
The young girl does not have health insurance and will not be able to afford to find out if the tumor that they found on her brain is cancerous or not. Mathis’ father died after a tumor erupted unexpectedly. The family said that he did not even know that he was sick.
In the past De Beyer has listed his restaurant and has turned down $1.3 million in recents years, according to The Huffington Post. Now he is ready to sell the property to help the Mathis family get through this hard time.
De Beyer is looking for $2 million for the Kasierhof Restaurant. The De Beyer family hopes to sell the restaurant in time for Mathis to get her treatment.
“I’m not able to just sit by and let it happen,” he said. “I couldn’t live with myself; I would never be happy just earning money from my restaurant knowing that she needs help.”
