The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has earned the rights to be called the most pirated movie of 2013. The film, which stars Martin Freeman playing the iconic role of Bilbo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings prequel.

Torrent Freak reported that the first Hobbit film was pirated the most out of any film in 2013, being downloaded over eight million times. The spike in pirating might be a result of fans wanted to get ready for the second installment The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which was released in theaters this past December.

Rounding out the top five for most downloaded films included, Fast & Furious 6, Django Unchained, Iron Man 3 and Silver Linings Playbook.

In 2012 the most pirated movie was, Project X, which was downloaded over 8.7 million times. The film was not well received by critics and made $103 million at the box office.
