After the Pope was given a Harley Davidson motorcycle in honor of the company’s 110th anniversary, he made the decision to put it up for auction, along with a leather jacket, to raise funds for charities for the renovation of Caritas’ Don Luigi di Liegro Hostel and Soup kitchen.
According to NPR, the auction is set for Feb. 6 at the Grand Palais in Paris, and will be set at the price of $16,000-$20,000.
Last year, the Pope blessed 800 bike riders that came to St. Peter’s Square.
Since the Pope has been elected, he has stressed that it is important to help those less fortunate. He denounces the grandeur of the Papacy apartments, and instead chooses to live in the guest house and uses a Ford Focus instead of the limousine.
According to the National Catholic Register, the Pope urged clergy to think about their transportation, saying ““And, if you like that beautiful car, think about how many children are dying of hunger.”
