The Weather Channel has been dropped from DirecTV as of Monday, as neither side could come to a new carriage deal before the previous agreement expired.

As previously reported, talks over a new carriage deal stalled late last week and DirecTV seemed relatively unworried about losing 24/7 weather coverage network.

The satellite provider recently launched their own competing channel called Weather Nation, which is supposed to be similar to The Weather Channel, minus the reality TV shows, which is something that DirecTV keeps using to dig at the network.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, CEO and chairman of The Weather Channel David Kenny has come out to say that he is "shocked" his network was actually dropped by DirecTV.

Kenny said in a statement that DirecTV "put corporate profits ahead of keeping a trusted channel that subscribers rely on every day." He also insisted that The Weather Channel only wanted a "fair deal." The CEO then insisted that keeping his network off their air "puts DirecTV customers at risk."

DirecTV chief content officer Dan York shot back and claimed that The Weather Channel has focused too much on the addition of reality programs. "Most consumers don't want to watch a weather information channel with a forecast of a 40 percent chance of reality TV."
