The 67th Locarno Film Festival announced that it will host a retrospective dedicated to the Titanus film production studio.
The festival’s Artistic Director Carlo Chatrian told The Hollywood Reporter, "The idea of telling the story of Italian film through the country’s biggest 'dream factory' … relates to our project of re-reading the past that has become a characteristic of the festival’s programming. To explore the world of Titanus is to explore that crucible of popular and auteur cinema as they intersect and feed each other."
Organizers from the festival did say that the films Bread, Love, and … (Pane, amore, e…) and Poor But Beautiful (Poveri ma belli) would be screened as part of the tribute. After the retrospective shows at the Locarno Film Festival, it will travel to the Film Society at Lincoln Center and to the American Cinematheque and the USC School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles, according to Variety.
Titanus was founded by Gustavo Lombardo. The studio has been behind the films of Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti, Dino Risi, and Ermanno Olmi.
The 67th edition of the Locarno Film Festival will run August 6-16. The festival presents global indie and auteur cinema.
