2013 was a good year for the cast and production team of Kinky Boots on Broadway. The new musical won the most desired award for Best Musical at the award show based solely on Broadway shows and theatrical endeavors. However, at this week’s Grammy Awards, Kinky Boots won much more.
According to Playbill.com, Kinky Boots won yet another award for their musical genius score. The show won a Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album written by a Tony-Award winner herself, Cyndi Lauper.
Broadwayworld.com stated that the award was given at the pre-show ceremony. The album includes the talents of Tony-Award winner Billy Porter, Stark Sands, and Annaleigh Ashford.
Kinky Boots is based off of the film released in 2005 surround the life goals and dreams of Charlie Price. Based in the U.K, the musical follows Charlie as he struggles to uphold his father’s business until he find an unexpected friend, Lola, and unexpected love with a fellow co-worker. With a book by Harvey Fiernstein and choreography by Jerry Mitchell, Kinky Boots will hopefully remain a Broadway favorite!
