Rob Ford, the controversial political leader from Toronto, has put in paperwork to run again in 2014. He is the first candidate to add his name to the register for election.
Ford, whose name was catapulted into the spotlight after allegations of his drug use, was defensive and emphasized that his record that the most important thing when looking towards next October. Ford originally called himself a champion of taxpayers and ordinary people, but Toronto citizens are divided about whether to accept Ford again.
Derek Killins, a resident of Waterloo, told the Associated Press “"Other than embarrass the hell out of himself and the city as a public figure, has he done anything pertaining to his job that was detrimental to the city's well-being from a financial or economical standpoint?"
Ford felt pressure to resign from the role of mayor after Toronto police said they had obtained a video of him seeming to smoke from a crack pipe. According to Reuters, he first said that he did not smoke crack cocaine before admitting his drug use.
The next mayoral election is scheduled for October 27, 2014.
